Exfoliating Your Face? Is it Too Much Work? Read This First

May 29, 2019 2 min read

Gentle Exfoliation is a great habit for good skin health. We hear questions like - How often should we exfoliate? What is the gentle way to scrub away the remnants of your skin past life? What products are proven to do the job without getting on the bad book of your skin?

So how often should we follow this exfoliation regime?

Most dermatologists consider exfoliating based on your skin type. Two to three times a week for normal and combination skin, and once a week for sensitive skin should be safe. However, it is a good idea to consult your dermatologist first if you have sensitive skin.

In a nutshell, listed below are some of the visible benefits of following an exfoliation regime -

1. Gets rid of dead skin cells
2. Slows down formation of wrinkles
3. Keeps blemishes at bay
4. Gets your skin glowing
5. Stops pores from getting bigger
6. Improves skin discolouration

Which exfoliator should I use?

Physical exfoliator such as face scrubs is often too abrasive and using a face scrub is similar to sandpapering your face.

Some Chemical exfoliators can also be quite harsh to the skin. It is very important to choose the right form and strength, so you get the benefit of the exfoliation without damaging the natural moisture barrier of your skin.

Lactic Acid is a gentle acid that we would recommend to everyone. It gets rid of your dead skin cells without creating any inflammations.

Things to consider while using Lactic Acid

Although Lactic Acid is one of the gentler acids on offer, you should still refrain from using one too regularly. Once or twice a week is best for most skin types. Remember to always use sunscreen before you go out while using Lactic Acid.We highly recommend ‘The Ordinary’ Lactic Acid. They come in two concentrations:

-Lactic acid 5% + HA 2% - Best suited to those with sensitive skin

-Lactic acid 10% + HA 2% - For most skin type

Exfoliation is one of the easiest things to do at home to keep your skin’s texture, tone and radiance at their best. However, given that not there is not one regime that fits all skin type, please feel free to leave a comment below or email us directly if you have any question.
